Default Quick question: LS1 and bellhousing bolt patterns

So, does a stock 4 speed bellhousing fit onto an LS1? If not, know anyone that sells an adapter?

Thanks
Cris

Pretty sure the LS1 has the common Chevrolet bolt patten for bellhousing.

Lakewood sells the adapter. Look in Jegs.

No it's not different apart from the fact that it does not use all the bolts on the engine, the upper one is not used if I'm not mistaking but neither does my zf tranny, it only uses the other 6 also.

Nice. That would explain why I havn't found an adapter yet. Ok, 1 more question: Is there a way to convert a T56 to mechanical linkage, or some kind of kit to aid in the ease of installing and using the hydraulic clutch?

The bolt pattern is the same except for one bolt is in a different position. They use the same number of bolts just one is moved over a little. You should be able to use it with no problem.

The LT1 version of the T56 used a clutch fork hooked to a remote slave cylinder. You might be able to convert it to completely manual.

The LS1 version of the T56 uses a hydraulic ring type slave cylinder. You would have to mount the master cylinder on the firewall below the brake master cylinder and connect the shaft to your clutch pedal.

Has anyone done this? I'd like to learn more about this conversion. I've read the corvettefaq pages that touch on it, but no real nitty-gritty info or pics...?

I was talking about hooking up a T56 hydraulic clutch in an old vette.

OK, you will need to mount the master cylinder on the firewalljust below the brake master cylinder. You can use the existing hole in the firewall for the clutch linkage, but you will have to enlarge it slightly to allow the end of the clutch master cylinder to slide into it, approximately 1.5". The master cylinder actuation rod can connect to the stock clutch pedal in the stock location. There is a post attached to the pedal with a pin running through it. Pull off the old linkage and install a small nylon bushing, can't remember the size, but you will be able to measure when you have all the parts in front of you. The nylon bushing fits inside the eye of the clutch linkage and over the post. You can re-use the stock pin to hold it all together. You will need to fabricate a bracket to hold the master cylinder to the firewall in the engine bay.

Hope this helps.

It does. Is this all using parts from the donor car?

The donor parts are the trans, master cylinder and line connecting them. I didn't even disconnect them.

The clutch pedal is the stock 1970 corvette pedal from my 4 speed.

Look in "My Corvette Photos", there is a pic of the bracket and the actual master going throught the firewall. There is also pics of the tunnel, underneath, and shifter.
