Perhaps the VIN # contains the clue (engine code).
NOPE - no engine code in the 69 vin.
Seems high to me, no matter what it WAS.

I love that it declares it to be a '69 T-TOP CORVETTE but the picture clearly shows it to be a 'vert.

Maybe people think they are bidding on the 69 427 convertible that is also on their website? It's crazy! Joe

How about this:
It was a matching numbers L88 vert .... "stolen and stripped".
The high bidder has the "stolen" items ready to re-install.
Hmmmmm.

Those guys are scammers. Stay away from them.
They point you to the AutoSource website.
AutoSource is supposed to be a nationwide company with access to insurance owned wrecked and salvage vehicles.
Problem is they never answer their e-mail or phones.
They recommend you join AutoSource which will allow you to access their database of Salvage and wrecked cars for $15.00.
Guess what, even after joining you can't contact them them. You get a automated phone message saying the message box is full.
They advertise on all of the Vette for sale sites and even Vettehound.com

what's the big puzzle? I have logically excluded as highly unlikely every possibility except 2:
1. A bidder made a mistake, ie typed in a number higher than he had intended.
2. There is some shill bidding going on, ie it is not "real" money bidding the price up.
Other scenarios I have excluded from consideration:
1. The bid was beamed in from Mars where there are very few corvettes regardless of condition.
2. The market for junk is much stronger than we thought it was.
3. A project car is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it.
