Default What Hurst 4spd shifter?

The Hurst shifter I have in my '68 is atleast 25yrs old and worn, rather rebuild it I plan to buy new. Summit/Jegs has them, but which one do I need to fit the OEM console? If the street/strip one I need?

Thanks

You can get then new but the quality of the older ones is much better. With the rebuild kit it will be better and much cheaper. the one you would need to buy if you decide to get a new one is the competition plus. You MUST use a corvette specific unit for the correct handle and location. I replaced my 30 year old Hurst with the stock OEM for originality.. The hurst is a much better shifter ....keep it

Larry, Didn't want to hijack this thread but the 427 is looking really good! You did a great job on the paint. Any other improvements/upgrades since the paint? Send me an IM. I'm looking at an L89 here in Tampa...

I sent my old Hurst comp + shifter back to Hurst for a rebuild just last year. I think it cost $75. The new shifters are more than twice that and I don't think they make them like they used to.

Q) Does Hurst offer rebuild kits for their shifters? What can I do to get my shifter rebuilt?

Just put one in my '75 when I converted it to a four speed a few months ago & also put one in my Blue '68 convertible back in '89.
I believe the Competition Plus is the ONLY Hurst shifter which states "no modification to factory console is necessary".
I think the shifter was $169 and the installation kit $100.

No Corvettes had Hurst shifters from the factory..GTO's and Chevelle's did but not Vettes. They got the GM Muncie shifters.

Default Hurst shifter

Last spring I replaced my worn Hurst Competion Plus shifter with a new unit (didn't have time to wait for the original to be rebuilt). I replaced the linkages while I was at it. The shifter was $165.95 and the installation kit ran another $89.95. I purchased both items from Summit.

I am very happy with the results. My old shifter had always been tough to shift into 3rd gear. Now it shifts into all gears effortlessly.

As for fit, the old shifter hit the shifter plate every time I put it into reverse. This may have been due to wear. The new shifter fits perfectly in the console and does not hit the shifter plate.

When comparing the old shifter to the new one, the old ball was ivory colored (maybe just well aged) while the new ball is white with the Hurst logo on each side. The new stick has a rounded contour as opposed to the old stick which was more squared off.
