36 square feet of dynamat xtreme weighs 16 pounds according to the box. I would like to use a foam overtop the dynamat. You would know about that Jim being in the air conditioning business. What about the adhesive backed foam with alumimum foil over it sold at Home depo and home suppliers like that???

here was the older packaging of the Frost King:

it's 15 dollars per roll; 15 sq feet. Weighs 3 lbs per roll (minus the cardboard tube roll).

But again, it's not as dense as the high powered car stereo material. But it's thin-ness makes it easy to work with.

-------

the Dynamat "Extreme" - newer offering - does not use petroleum fillers as the original Dynamat did. I don't know of anyone that has tested the marketing claims about the newest stuff from them, but it supposedly no longer has the tar smell to it.

I can tell you something, insulating the wifes 1973 SERIOUSLY quieted the interior down. And I still haven't done the doors yet.

when you do the rear compartment - and after removing the carpeting back there - tap on the floor of the rear compartment with your knuckle. R-E-V-E-R-B-E-R-A-T-E-S like the surface of a drum.

It needs to be dampened

Mike I am going to get some of that tomorrow if I can find it and put it over the dynamat. They even recommend a sound absorber. That stuff looks promising.
Thanks

Good thread!

'You would know about that Jim being in the air conditioning business."

I am a Manufacturing Quality Specialist for Carrier Air Cond. in Morrison TN. That is until either late February or early April. The plant leaves for Mexico (NAFTA) in July. Some of our product goes to Charlotte NC and a little goes to Tyler TX., they will soon follow suit. Tyler is also going to MX and then Charlotte is supposed to go to China. There will be no commercial Carrier manufacturing facility left in the US in 5 more years.

I will be a County Deputy Sheriff again when I leave. I went to pick up my uniforms and start back part time until I leave Carrier. I will take a 50% cut in pay. But believe this or not it isn't as stressful being a cop.

We use a fiberglass insulation that is applied with a hot melt glue and a little foam backed adhesive as described above except it is in rigid sheets. We have no Dynamat type dampner. jim

In my 'neck... it is sold at Lowes and Home Depot. Both stores keep it in the heating/AC sections - not the home insulation area.

I found a heat shield material form a local auto store it is a jute material approx 3/8 thick with a heat foil on one side, I glued it down tight and it molded vary well to all the curves. Cost was 21 dollers for a 4x6 ft roll. best investment I ever made. At 3/8 inch thick the carpet and interior had vary little adjusting to the extra pad.

My wife and I took our first drive last weekend since the interior restore and we could not believe the noise reduction and let’s not even mention no heat from the tunnel area. The road noise reduction was unbelievable!!!!!!We can now carry on a normal conversation. The car just feel to be of a higher quality and more solid now that it's quiter best money I've spent so far.

I have a good article on insulating our cars and it recommends jute in the heavy traffic area like on the foot wells like you are doing.
My main concern now ithe doors. They say this is a very bad contributor to noise and needs addressing.

While I am not looking forward to pulling the doors apart I will do it later , after the interior is finished and the cage is bolted in.

Where are you guys going to put this on the doors. On the inside or over it and up against where the door panel fits. Is there romm enough to put it on. I have my door panels off and it just does not seem like the door panel will fit if you put on 3/8 inch of insulation. I plan on insulating the car floors but never thought about doing the doors.

Prosouth, I work for Parker Climate Systems...formerly Eaton...formerly Aeroquip. We sell you guys lots of stuff. The Move to Mexico is disturbing. It's happening at Trane as well. Sad. I just installed a complete Payne central air and furnace system this spring. Trying to keep you guys in business!!! Carrier is the best there is.

Dynamat extreme has NO odor and is only 1/8" thick, so it will install on the door carcass easily. Best results would be to install it on the exterior panels, but access is obviously a problem. There is also a spray on product that was developed for the limited access/extreme contour installations...I know Cascade makes one. Not sure about Dynamat.

I glued a 3/8" steel rod in each of the two grooves in the rear floor to help eliminate the severe flex and resulting "drumming" in that area. It helped a lot, if thumping on it with my hand is any indicator. If you look close, you can see it in the picture I posted above.
