soda bottles in the front fenders were a popular unwanted "option".bottles were place in the well behind the front tire and before the front door hinge post. a friend of mine worked at a Pontiac dealer and they were good for a bottle a year at least. since our vettes were assembled in St Louis, we can now assume compartment doors came out of the Detroit area.
One of my dad's good friends used to work at one of the GM engine plants back in the 70's. He told us about some of the stuff that they would put in the cylinders before putting the heads on...one of my faves was when they would take their lunch bags wadded up in the cylinder... now it makes sense why some engines were crap straight outta the box!
found a duplicate of the tank sticker (in perfect condition) under the carpet under the drivers seat when i re-did my interior (79). good thing. the "real" tank sticker was in terrible shape
Back when I was a teenager in the late 70's my dad purchased a Fiat 128 A. We did a total restore on it. When we were taking out the interior I found a doobie in the rear ashtray..never been lit..so what did I do..hell I am not telling!! Car came from california..damn potheads!!
I found a medium sized grass snake (maybe 14-16") that had made his home in the heater core area. He was smooshed, but I have no idea how...? Maybe he was just severely dehydrated.
On a similar note, my dad had an annoying rattle in the door of his '69 Mach 1.
Took the door apart and found a Coke bottle was making the noise.
My high school history teacher had a similar incident... don't know what kind of car it was but the door rattle turned out to be several bolts tied to strings dangling from an inner part of the door.
WOW great stories so far. For me I found a golf tee in the ash tray when my car arrived from Fl. Right now the car is having the upholstery redone and I told the guy doing it to save anything he finds lol! so we will see when I get the car back - whenever that is
When I bought one of my used 1980's I found a very rusty Colt Combat Commander in the spare tire (center section of the wheel) - wrapped in a grungy piece of cloth. It had a full magazine!! The previous owner said they knew nothing of it

Nice find, you can clean it up and re-blue it or have it nickle plated.
