serpentine conversion kit - how do I install this??
My brother gave me a serpentine conversion kit from March for the holidays. I have no idea how to install it though. I have a 1968 with no power steering and no AC. He also got me a new alternator bracket with an adjustable rod, which he says can be used to adjust it.
1.) Do I need a tensioner or idler pulley in this system, because I did not get one.
2.)How do you route the belt? Do I need a reverse style waterpump.
I really have no idea how to install these things. All advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

If you have the kit for alternator only, then you dont need a reverse rotation water pump and the alternator bracket acts as the tensioner.
I have a custom zoops serpentine kit and installation is pretty easy.
Remove water pump pulley.
remove crank pulley.
remove alternator and all brackets.
Mount March alternator bracket to front of head head (bolts into the accessories holes)
The adjusting rod mounts to the bracket...the other end to the alternator.
To measrue for a belt, take a piece of string tape it to the alternator pulley and then go from the alternator down around the crank, up to the water pump and back to the alternator. Take this as your guide as the length of the belt.
March have great customer support...so give them a call.

I think this is what I have. I just have an alternator pulley, waterpump pulley and the crank pulley and nothing else.
I do not think I need an idler pulley or reverse waterpump.
I think I just wrap the belt around all the pulleys?
Is that right?
I tried calling Marc, but I got no answer. I think they have limited customer support hours during the holiday season.
Thanks,

I will let you know how it goes but I am not actually installing it for a while. Too cold in Massachusetts right now to do anything.
Thanks again,
Joe
It's freakin' T-shirt weather.
I've been drivin' everywhere with my sunroof open.
OK -2F earlier this week, but 40+ and on the rise today.
Your house will see the 50s this weekend.
No lame excuses.
Sounds like a nice and easy mod. Good luck

Perhaps somewhat true.
I was just giving Joe a bit of a hard time, but you gotta admit that the
50s is not too cold to work outside.

Thanks for all of your help.

The hardest part will probably be swapping the alternator pulley. If I remember correctly, you need a big allen wrench to stop the shaft from turning while you undi the nut then a puller to get the pulley off.
Definitely not too cold out. Finally got my windows reassembled and adjusted but had to back the car out of the garage so I could get the doors open enough to reinstall the panels. Of course, that is as far as the car goes until all the salt is off the road.

Forget the allen key and wrench. Use an air impact wrench - off in 10 seconds.
If no compressor/wrench, then go to a local gaage - they will usually pop
it off for you "no charge" - a few bux at the most.
Enjoy the weekend, guys. I intend to paint my gas tank. Gotta get this
baby running by June.

Just looking on the bright side of course.
