Default Can I paint the steering wheel

We have a steering wheel very similar to this we ordered from C.C.: http://www.parts123.com/PartFrame.as...rvette_Central

The third one down BTW

Only difference is that the center is black not brushed. Can I paint the outside of this wheel with the interior trim paint used for the rest of the interior? The outside of the wheel does not match the interior.

Sorry link didnt work right Part # 562146-35

The link does not go to anything about a steering wheel. Painting one somehow does not appeal to me.

Hope it works for you!

Is yours the original wheel or aftermarket, and what paint did you use?

Thanks

I recently bought a tan leather steering wheel and painted it black with vinyl spray paint that I bought at the hardware store. It came out great.
Make sure that you clean the leather good before painting. I wiped mine with alcohol, then don't touch it with your hands. Spray several light coats so it don't run.

That's what I did. Stock steering wheel, just painted it with the interior vynl dye that the catalogs sell and it came out alright, a definite improvement.

I have the interior trim paint from Mid-America, is that what you used?

Thank you all for the info.

Sweet thank you.

I was a little nervous at doing this to a new $200 wheel, but if it worked for others I am convinced.

Thanks

hold on buddy.....we did this to an original 26 yr old shi**y steering wheel not a new one....why not buy a wheel to match your interior....i think they are in that price range and it would matcrh...

edit ok went to the web site....those are nice wheels i would hate to paint it....didn't i see a rebuild service available some where....could you send in your old wheel....or how about buying a used one and painting it....i am happy with my painted wheel but would not have done this to a new wheel....sorry to confuse the issue....

We thought this one was gonna match the interior, but it didnt. Now Im just thinking of other ideas to get it to match. Its an aftermarket wheel that was bought last year( when interior was put in)

Sorry I messed up on the price it was 140.00 not 200. I was looking at something else and put the wrong price. My bad.

I'll post pics tonight if I can

How off is the color??? I think it would have to be pretty bad for me to paint a brand new steering wheel . . . I'm just not that particular about some things. If you do paint it, I'd say put on a lot of very light coats of paint and avoid the stitches so it doesn't build up on them.

Sorry no pics yet, but it is off enough that it bothers me.

I'll take some pics tomorrow if I get over to the car then.
