I simply wanted to put a new ammeter gauge in. Three days later I have the entire dash and shifter console out. Everytime I do something I find something else wrong, such as broken plastic mounts holding the steering wheel shaft vanity cover on or the forward fiber optic housing stud is broke off and held on with epoxy or the tach housing mounts are broke. There are about 20 items being epoxyed or othewise repainted all over the garage floor and this 20 minute repair looks as if it will never end. God make it stop!

Seriously though, that's why I'm more concerned about re-doing the interior than I was about rebuilding my engine.
no its like OCD squared...you just don't remember the past level of intensity....kind of like women and pregancies....they forget the pain in a couple of months...just like us....
You ever tried to paint the ventilation *****? I got the gloss black shot on the inside now I'm trying to tape the inside, half moon shape so I can shoot the outside with spray chrome (Mexican chrome).

I would have painted the outside first as it is easier to tape off to do the other color.

How does the spray chrome look? I've got to tear out my interior (again) this spring and would like to "freshen" up the ventilation *****. What brand of paint are you using?
If you didn't know, the "chrome" on the vent ***** is vacuum metalizing.
It would look better to get new ones than try painting them.
To get them re-metalized would cost 4 times what it is to replace them.
Someone here had their dash (non Vette) done and it cost them $400- think they got ripped off. They then masked it up and sprayed it black to get the chrome highlights back
Worse than Cali?

LOL David! Remember I was there just a couple months ago!

All Krylon paints from Home Depot. I'd personally spend the $25 p/ball and order new ones. not coming out as good as I expected.
Famous last words of a C3 owner. Also sometimes "I just want to..."
Never stops amazing me. Maybe some of the guys above have it right in that we don't know the history and want to make the whole thing right. Maybe, as the Catholics believe, we are just in purgatory. The driving is heaven and the fixing is purgatory? I vaguely remember that you only go to purgatory once though. Why then do we keep coming back?
I think I'll go back to my rebuild instead of thinking about this. Started as an exhaust manifold repair. Found soot in the ports. Found sticking valve. Pulled the heads. Didin't like the look of the cylinder walls.....
Just tried to put the shifter console back in. Wiring harness requires shifter console right side up to install the forward fiber optics, me upside down my oversize hands trying to get a 5/32 screw started in a tiny hole deep within a small crevice inside the panel within the depths of hell.
I rather have my ***** ripped off my body with a pair of vise-grips than ever go thru this again. I'm writing this becuase I lost my patience and had to leave the garage before I go get my shotgun and shoot my car.
like to throw in one tip. i use chrome paint markers from michaels, or any craft store. usually in the model department( if you can still find one of those! ). i use this on missing or chipped crome around my plastic dash and such. dare ya to find a difference, have had lots of luck with this.
