pinion angle question
Some backround info I've got a 68 vert comming close to finishing up my frame off resto I've been working on this car for about 2 1/2 years and I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I just finished installing my rear suspension (new T/A, vbp composite spring, new half shafts, shocks, dragvette set up, rebuilt diff 4.56).
Now I'm about to install a new viper t56. I did not get a kiesler set up, however I have everything thing I need for the install except the removable crossmember which I'll do myself.
My question is what's the easiest way to find the right height and angle of the transmission. I know the angles should be equal but opposite. Should I measure the the angle and height of the diff. than fab up the tranny mount to match it?
Also the body is off the car everything is accessible.
Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Also I want to say don't forget the side to side angle. If the diff is not perfectly square you will get vibration too.

Side to side is also important. With the body off it is difficult to set the angle. I know this is opposite to what evertone things. When installing the transmission and building custom mounts I always push the transmission as high a possible, just so the top clears the tunnel but not by much. I do modify the hole for the shifter to allow the transmission as high as possible. I then us a magnetic protractor and measure off the yoke. This is a down angle, I then check the pinion and make it equal up which is easy by making the rubber puck thinner or thicker, but mainly thinner.
I also string the car. A string from the center of the damper to the center of the rearend and check alignment off the transmission output and pinion to make sure it lies in this plane.
Mine did not and I ended up taking the rearend out, slotting 3 or the 4 holes, rotating the pinion until it lined up , filling in parts of the old holes and moving 3 of them for better alignment.
I had a vibration problem and this totally cured all vibration.
I also have a special homemade tool that goes on the pinion flange with a pointer, one end rides in the center of the pinion, the little center drill mark and the other end is the correct length to almost go in the back of the transmission yoke.
Both alignments are critical.
With the body off how high do you make the transmission????
Much more of a concern in a live axle car where the driveshaft actually changes angle.
