Yep, just grab hold and unscrew it. If you can unscrew the button first it'll be easier. I grabbed hold of the ball and unscrewed it without doing the button first. The button unscrewed when the spring was compressed enough to apply the necessary force to unscrew it. Then it shot the button and the spring around my interior.

Thats what I thought and tried but it won't budge... I put the force of god in it... I guess i'll spray some oil in there and see if that works if not I guess i'll steal a silver back from the Indy zoo and see if he can get it off...

You need to remove the chrome detent button first. If you don't have access to a strap wrench, try gripping it with a piece of rubber, like an old inner tube. Be careful of the spring, "it could put your eye out"
