Aloha and Happy New Year to all!
Its been awhile since I logged on, you know how it is when you have sunny days and a hot Vette! I need some advice on a transmission malfunction. My trans will not shift. It stays in first gear. I checked all vacuum lines, they were good. I changed the module with no success. Help!
Are you sure you're getting vacuum to the modulator. I've never heard of this line pluging but anything is possible. The only other thing I could guess is a stuck valve in the valve body or a dirty filter.
There's a very good chance that you have stripped the small plastic gear on the governor that meshes with the output shaft. Without the governor spinning, the rest of the transmission controls (the valve body) doesn't know that the car is moving and accelerating, and the transmission stays in first gear. Remove the cover (pressed into the housing and sealed with a large O ring) and slip the governor out to inspect the gear.
It sounds like either the downshift cable is mal adjusted or stuck in the wide open throttle position, or the manual shift cable is not putting the trans in the correct position. I have seen the cable stretch and the lever at the trans not go past 1st even though the indicator was in drive.

just for elimination sake i would manually get under the car with the car turned off and go through the gears by manually moving them.....and see if you can feel a mecahnical hang up some where...also after you have done it manually.....have somone else move the gear selector up top and see if you still have that full range of motion....

Thanks for the information. A little more information from me might be helpful in explaining whats going on with my transmission. I was driving the car when it started acting up. I had just left the freeway when I slowed and noticed it was shifting roughly at around 3000 rpms. I thought it was the fluid level. I made it home, added some fluid. no joy. I tried manually shifting while driving still no joy. I noticed after this that the transmission was very hot?
I was able to change out the governer gear. The original was good but I changed it anyways. Replaced the modulator with a different one. I think the first was not the correct one. Checked the vacuum from the manifold it is good and strong. The fluid level is good but the transmisssion still will not go into high gear. Any other suggestions would be appreciated
