Default Tool Warrantee Question

What is the extent and/or conditions of lifetime tool warrantees? Do they cover rusted pieces or simply inoperable pieces?

When I was less than 4 years old, my late grandfather put together a toolbox for me to play with. My brother found the toolbox in my parent's garage and much to my surprise, it was mostly Craftsman tools but also had a few Snap-On and Proto pieces. Unfortunately nearly every, if not every wrench, socket, wratchet is rusted severely. Only a few are inoperable.

So, if I were to approach Sears or a Snap-On dealer, would they be willing to replace any of the severely rusted pieces?

Thanks!

Can't speak for Sears, but Snap-On will. Do your best to clean them up first.

Craftsman... if it says craftsman on it, and your not happy with it they give you another. "Sears" tools dont normally have a warranty.

Some of the others, I think homedepot/lowes house brands are the same way.

Others, like wright/williams dont have a warranty. You can interpert that they are saying, "This is the last one you'll every buy."

Snapon is decent with their warrantys, no warranty on the torque wrenches, and ratches just get a rebuild.

Cant speak for mac or matco... havent done much research on those!

I intend to keep all the ones that are at all usable. Some fell out of the sets and got moist, rusted, and bonded with the bottom of the toolbox. Maybe I should take a picture so y'all could see the degree of rust I'm talking about. To complete the sets of the ones he gave me, I'd prefer to replace the few pieces which are maybe 5% of all the pieces.

If you can knock the scale off with a wire brush and oil them down you might get lucky...

Are they chromed tools? If they are a good bit of massaging with a buffing wheel on a dremel can get the outside finish to "acceptable." But you might buff through the chrome to the nickle!

For the craftsman tools, the older they are the higher quality they are (at least the ones that I have come across!)

I don't think the Sears Craftsman warranty covers commercial use of their tools.

I would personally just soak them in muratic acid for about 10 minutes rinse them off with water and use them just for the sentimental value my.02
