They are called super bright LED's. They go in just like a bulb but are LED's I'm thinking of trying them.

I got mine from Sherco Auto Supply in Margate, Florida. www.sherco-auto.com ; phone (954) 975-0012.

Fast shipping and good service was my experience. Big improvement in rear lighting! Some of the best money I have spent so far. (Some forum members have said their halogen tail lights burned out after a short period--mine have not--but I kept my old bulbs just in case).

I ordered part #H1157, Halogen Xtra bright bulbs and #H1156. Total of 4 bulbs. I replaced both tail and back up bulbs. Cost was $5.95 per bulb. Total of $29.80 with shipping--which was fast. --Patrick

Pulled from the Super Bright LED websight.

LED bulbs are generally not as bright as standard incandescent bulbs, they have many advantages over filament bulbs (longer life, faster on/off times, lower power consumption, more vivid colors) but brightness is not one of them

Just for everyone's info.

Sylvania Silverstars is what you are looking for. Auto Zone does carry them and they are $20 a pair. They are bright!. They make both the 1156 & 1157 bulbs. The Try the Silverstar headlight replacements for a reliable replacement bulb as well either style. Jim

Bob, I believe they are LED's..setups in the rears of the BMW's..have caught my eye. I still think the led's are brighter than incandescent myself...I will be replacing the bulbs in the rear taillights this year..and will post pic when done..will try to do a side by side comparison.. Joe!

We use them in our business and I have to disagree. The difference is the angle they are viewed from. When you see them from the side, they do not apppear as bright, but look at the head on and there is a noticable difference with L.E.D.'s being significantly brighter - of course, this is considering that the L.E.D uses more bulbs (which all do) - bulb for bulb, you are correct.

Some time in the past I purchased LED replacements all around for a pretty penny. Ended up giving them to a friend for free.

Just as said above - "not as bright as standard incandescent bulbs". One of the drawbacks the general thickness or the general opaqueness of the tail light lens. The LED's have their place in the clear lens applications.

Changed to the halogen bulbs about 2 years ago and no burnouts yet.

I think we might be confusing brightness with visibility. I have no doubt that taking a measure of luminosity at any given point from an incandescant bulb will yield a higher # than from a LED. But the advantage of LEDs is that they can be arranged in a grid behind the refractor screen giving a far more even (and to my eyes more NOTICEABLE) lighting effect than a single point of light behind that same screen. Now how you'd go about retrofitting them effectively is another matter entirely. Seems that the housing itself would need to be designed from the ground up to use LEDs to truly yield a benefit.

Maybe that's the difference. Many semi trailers are also changing to LED's. Get behind one and you definitely see the difference that I'm referring to.

This is quite surprising. I've made the same observation as the others above. I thought that these were much brighter than stock. Perhaps the whiter color?

of the lens to intensifiy the brightness.
