Decoding a VIN???
194679S728129. Trim is ZO4. Paint is 9C0 or 960. Body is M20
That is all the info I have for this car....I think it is a 1968, maybe a 69.
Any and all help is greatly and truly appreicated.

It's a 69 Coupe, standard black vinyl interior (ZQ4). There is no 960 paint code, so it must be either 900 Tuxedo Black, 980 Riverside Gold, or 990 Monaco Orange. The M20 body code indicates that the body was assembled on August 20, 1969. That's about all you can get from the VIN.

It's a coupe??
As the car sits, a complete basket case, it's a 4 spd convertible with a 427 in it...wonder if the tag got switched.
Thanks for the help!!!

as you have ascertained by visual, it is a vert!
For Convertibles, the fourth digit is a "6"
for coupes, the fourth digit is a "3"
wouldn't it be cool if it had an M20 trans? + M20 build...

Oops. 19467 is a 'Vert, 19437 would be a coupe. That's what I get for quoting stats off the top of my head. Sorry for the confusion.

Unfortunately the VIN didn't start telling the engine option until '73 or so, if that's what you're wondering. There are clues to tell if the car was originally a BB but without the proper documentation (tank sticker) there's no way to be sure.

The VIN tag on the winshield pillar post will only tell you if the model is a coupe or convertible and also the build sequence of the vehicle.
The body TRIM plate on the drivers side body door hinge area will tell you interior color, exterior color and build date of vehicle.
Engine code identification did not come into existance on Corvettes until the 1972 model.

If you can actually get to the car, check for the redline on the tach and the number of fuel lines, (2 for Qjet or 1 for Holley).
Check out the engine numbers to see if the last 6 digits match the VIN.
Check the engine code on the stamp pad to see what the engine thinks it is.
If you don't have a black book, get one. It will decipher all the codes you need.
Post the codes here if you can't get one pronto.

Hey! Get out of my section!
:
How much of a basket case is it? Rusty frame? What (if any) engine/trans does it have?
