Back in October I started up my new 383 and promptly had a bent valve thanks to some powder coating residue that got into the engine and caused a valve to stick. Anyway, I finally got it cleaned up and put back together. With the help of Budman78 we got it started on Friday and everything went smooth except Budman almost became a lobster when the radiator hose came loose. Other than that it ran great and now just need to tune it and then back to finishing the body. One step closer to putting it all back together.
Budman decided he wanted to take it for a spin.
Here is the high tech gauge setup to keep an eye on oil pressure and temp.
Still recovering from my near death experience... The doctor says I'll be fine after I consume some more adult beverages. From the way it sounded, it's going to be one bad *** ride. Next step, graph body to car.....
Oh man, me too. Too bad I can't dyno the thing as it sits. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to get the body on for at least six more months, especially the way I have been working on it lately.
Looks great.
And on that lobster part. I Got SEVERLY burned when my top rad hose let go while I was setting the timing. Soaked my whole left side.
My face had 2nd degree burns but my arm, which waited patiently under a soaked sweatshirt til I cleaned my eyes, got 3rd degree burns.
I wiped my eyes out then pulled up my sweatshirt sleeve and had skin hanging off my arm.
Said a few words of disgust, wrapped myself in wet towels and my wife drove me to the emergency room.
Burns are SLOW healing. That was 4 months ago and my arm is still purple.
So double and triple check those hoses especially if you have chrome fitments.
