I searched (?) here and my print outs but cannot find how to raise my DS window while the motor is burnt out. Want to remove everything and clean but manual calls for bringing the window up and remove then continue. What is the secret again? I know I have seen this post sometime in the past.
I just replaced my window regulator last week, so let me take a jab. First, is the window up or down? Can you access the 2 slider/rail nuts?
Luckily my window motor was still working, so I could get the nuts lined up for removal through the access holes. If you can't get them lined up, you may have to get them from a different way (i.e. through the power window motor access area).
Also, are you planning on taking the window out? I did mine with the window in pretty easy (again as long as you can take the regulator slide nuts off)/
Are you sure the motor is bad? You could try attaching a hot lead and ground lead to it and see if it will run the window. The dried grease on the tracks causes them not to work sometimes.
Roy and 72,
Thanks for the response! No the window is all the way down and the motor is shot. I hit it with 12V direct and nothing. There is no way possible with the window in the position it is in to reach the nuts that hold the window in. I want to replace the motor and remove the regulator to clean out everything. I am afraid to remove the motor since the manual tells you to lock the spring with a bolt when removing it. How the heck do I lock it when the sucker will not move at all. This is frustrating. If I could get the motor off I could try and lift everything out at once....
If that's the case, you may have to remove the motor from the regulator. The reason for the bolt thru is to keep the spring from unwinding, but several on the forum have had broken springs and had to replace. I don't know for sure, but I don't think it's under a lot of tension. It is to help raise the window.
Unless I don't understand it properly in order to remove the motor you have to lock the regulator to keep the spring from flying out. Since it won't raise, I can lock it to take the motor out. I am afraid to just pull out the motor and see what happens From the looks of it the spring is not broken. Darn it.
Hit it with 24v. You have nothing to lose since your replacing the motor anyway. Otherwise your gonna have to take the whole damn thing apart to raise it.
If the motor doesn't move with 24v, loosen the 3 through bolts that holds the motor case to the gear head and wiggle it around a little while hitting it with voltage. That got mine going.
I'd be careful around that spring....it IS under a lot of tension...easily 30-45 pounds. If you take the motor off the regulator, the spring will either cause the scissors to fold quickly (which probably won't happen since the window is still on). I think you might have to take the motor off, and the manually raise the scissor arms until you hit the nuts. Can you get any movement by just pulling/pushing up on the window from inside?
Ok, update. I hit the motor with 24v and it did nothing. Not the slightest movement. I guess I will just pull the motor off, install the new one I have and see if that will raise the window. Since there isn't enough space to even fit my hand into to get at the last bolt I don't see how there is much chance the spring can go too far if it releases...
