I was about to place an order for a car cover and started thinking "Well, since I'm ordering, what else do I need."
I THINK I may need new engine mounts. Either the pulley or belt to the air keeps rubbing a hole in my heater hose (68 w/ 327). I was chatting with someone about it who said that his engine mounts were bad once allowing his engine to move a bit and biting into his heater hose. Also on the other side, the dipstick was broken off in the block...maybe from the movement as well????
Anyone think that the mount might be likely in need of replacement?
If so, are there any preferred mounts? The car is all origional (will be fully restored....SOMEDAY...for now I'd like to get it driveable so I can enjoy it on short trips around town). I suppose I'd like to stay "correct" parts.
Also looking for recommendations on a cover. It would be for "dust protection" while it's in the garage, never outside protection. I was going to go with the Wolf cover that's ~$69.
I was looking at Eckler's and Zip for this stuff....
Robbo,
Why not just replace the motor mounts with the stock ones?
Since you wan to keep the car stock, it would be one thing that is already replaced with the correct part.
I have had my 68 (also with A/C) since 1972 and the stock mounts lasted all that time so they must be of good enough quality.
You can still get them from many of the aftermarket suppliers and maybe even still from Chevrolet.
I got mine from Dr. Rebuild in Connecticut (he has a web site)and only replaced them becasue I am restoring entire car and wanted everything new. The od ones were still finewhen I pulled them out.
