Default Flushing and capping brake lines?

Hi guys,

As the title says I have a question on brakes:

I'm about to disconnect/remove all 4 calipers from my car to give my suspension/steering/... a rebuild and clean-up, and do some 'while I'm at its' in those areas.
My best guess is that these calipers will stay off the car for at least a few months.

The question now is: What is the best thing I can do to prevent problems like corrosion in my tubing/booster/... while the system is open to the air?
Should I just drain the system (will replace the oil anyway of course), if so, how to make sure it's all out?
Should I flush the system? If so, what should I use for this, and how to do?
Shouldn't I do anything, just make sure no dirt gets in?

Any help will be appreciated a lot!

I really like reading this forum, most of my questions are usually answered in one or the other thread even before I get the chance to ask...

Thanks a lot, greetings from Belgium, Sonny

If you are concerned about rust in the system, think you would be better off leaving the fluid in the system and flush it all out when you are ready to put it back together.

an easy way here would be to disconnect everything and then reconnect the rubber hoses...clamp the old rubber flexible lines or cut them and stick a bolt in them...take a latex exam glove cut off the finger and cable tie over the end of the cut hose....to catch anything that drips...leave the system full until you are ready to drain it and then flush it, after that put on new hoses and bleed the system....

I agree. I would just plug the lines with something like a toothpick and leave the master cylinder cap on. When you get the new calipers on, you can flush the system at that time using the new brake fluid.

Good luck

Rubber carburator vacuum port caps work great for temporarally capping brake lines, and you can get them in several sizes
