Just got my new aluminum center bolt Ebay valve covers. Look pretty good, but the holes for the breather / pcv are bigger (1.25") than the original. No hole for oil fill, but I guess I can just pull the breather. Question - when buying a bigger diameter PCV to fit the bigger hole, is size the only consideration? What would happen if I just can the PCV and use 2 breathers?
That would defeat the purpose of the PCV. The pcv uses the intake's vacuum to circulate the air in the crank case. If you remove the PCV from the intake, and replace with 2 breathers, it doesnt really circulate the air like the constant manifold vacuum would. You want to use the PCV, it is good for a street engine, as it helps take moisture and impurities out of the oil and crank case.
If buying a new PCV, a bigger one should work fine. It is simply a valve that allows airflow in only one direction (out, not in.)

I think I have the same valve covers. I did find the grommet that yellow 72 speaks of.
For filling oil, I just remove the PCV valve and put the funnel in the grommet. It does make for slow filling having the oil flow through the baffle though.
Thanks a lot for the great info, guys. I will go shopping for the adapter grommet, and reuse my existing PCV and breather setup. Eventually I'll go shop for the open element K&N style breather to match my air cleaner. E-bay?
