Hi I have a 75 L-48 Coupe with a automatic transmission. I am not sure which transmission my car has. My car has transmissoin fluid in it but it still will not work right. The car shifted fine until today when I got in it. The car has to be reved and set for a couple of seconds before it goes into reverse. Thenk when i put it in drive it does it some times. When I drive it it takes a while to shift into second you have to wind the car to about 3600 upward rpms and it will shift in to second and them eventually third. Do i need to rebuild my transmission or is it something simple. Thanks.
what pump? I am redoing the cr so it will be awhile before I can take it to a shop. The car is drivable but just around the block because there is no windsheild or lights. I am just driving it to make sure it does not get any stress cracks. The transmission has a leak from the pan because the car has been setting for so long. I filled with fluid and it started shifiting fine. Then today I will not. So why would it go out overnight with me not even driving it.
That would be the first thing I'd check. Also, when you check the fluid level, make sure it's fully hot - like driving on the freeway for 20 miniutes hot. Overfilling can be worse than being too low.

over years the filings from wear on the tranny will build up and plug the filter.you can remove the pan and replace the filter. if it works , fine for now, if not , it may be the pump.in either case the rebuild will be in the future.
you can gain 20 h.p. + or- by turning the 400 into a planter and get a th350.
When you mold a new front end and rear bumper on you don't want it to crack therefor you test drive to make sure it is not going to crack before a lot of money is spent on paint. Considering my paint job alone not the body work is going to be about 2500 bucks my cost since I own a bodyshop. It is also a good way to make sure you molded the front and rear ends correctly.
