I want to thank all on this form, but the list is to long. I read hundreds of your post on every aspect of my rebuild and it was invaluable.
I just need to install new door gaskets and door body trim pieces. I and my wife took a 2 hour cruse and could not believe it was the same car!!!! All dash and interior squeaks are gone but the huge improvement was the heat and road noise. ALL HEAT AT MY FEET AND shifter tunnel and floor pan is gone and the road noise is reduced by at lease 2/3rds. I should have taken a sound meter reading before. The aluminum insulation with the jute backing is really doing a great job.
The biggest was absolute no heat leakage from the heater ducts or the kick panel vents, I rebuilt all vacuum door gaskets and used about 20 ft of rope rubber sealant and 5 tubes of black silicone to seal every crack I could get to and then some. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is all I can say about the results.
SO AGAIN Guy’s A BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE ME AND SHARED THEIR KNOWLEDGE!!!!!!!!!!
Before
After
Opps I forgot to mention one cool thing I did the black wire on the passenger side shifter tunnel just in front of the seat I plug my cd player into that and listen to all my cd's and my kid's brought me into the 21 century and bought me an IPOD for xmas to put their, as soon as I figure how it works. It really works for me a lot better for me than the big CD players behind the seat sense I have the window tray and t-tops back the
Where did you get the insulation/sound deadener you used? I see it at several different placesand it all appears about the same. I'm getting ready to put my carpet in and need to go ahead and order the insulation. If I know something works that what I'll use.
Excellent!!! That looks better than new, great job.
I just did mine and I know how you feel, of course now I have to wait for the nice weather to really enjoy it. Keep up the good work!!!
I stayed with the original vinyl seat covers with new foam. I purchased from Willcox but the boxes had Corvette America on them. As you can see in the photo I raised the drivers seat about 1/2 inch in the rear (fender washers under the carpet) and it made a big difference in how I see over the hood. I felt like I was setting in a hole before, not real sure if a tall person could do this but it worked for me I am 5'11".
The material I used for the heat and sound deadener was THERMO-GUARD I purchased it from Pep Boys Auto it was a 4x6 roll on sale for $21 normal $26 a roll. It has really worked great and was easy to install with 3m 77 spray glue, I glued it down tight and it molded vary well to the curves of the body. The heat foil has worked excellent (in my car) 71 BB no headers and the soft compressible jute backing deadened the sound vary well indeed.
This product impressed me because it performed way above it cost, I have always gone by the rule YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and this one broke the mold with its cost/value in my book.
The 2 tunnel shots, before and after show how well it molded and how I sealed the tunnel with the Thermo-guard and overlapped the many glue seams, making it a vary tight package. I feel this really was the key in keeping out the sound and heat.
