I will be soon taking on the job of replacement of my crown and pinion gears, and side yokes. The crown gear has one tooth half missing (although the remaining half is on the contact area of the pinion) and the side yokes are worn (they move in and out of the diff at least 0.150").
The posi, bearings and seals were replaced last year by a shop. I know, the crown and side yokes should have been replaced at that time... The rear end has about 130 miles on it. Do you really think I need to replace the bearings this time? I figure if I have it all apart, I may as well do it.
I have been following a few of the diff rebuild threads, and I see that there is a pinion bearing removal tool. What does this look like?
I just PM you some info. I use a bearing splitter to remove the pinion bearing on a press. I use a setup bearing to get the pinion shim set then install the new pinion bearing. you can drive out the bearing races with a hammer and long punch.
