Hello C3 Gurus,
Quick question about the front Diff bushing. I have gotten back to the dissasembly after a much needed 2 wk vacation. I have been cutting most bolts and stuff off, because rust just won't give it up, and oh yes, I have tried weeks of soaking with PB. Any way back to the bushing, I soaked it and tried to get it off last nite after removing drive shaft, but all I got was a purple finger nail when the wrench slipped for the 20th time, can I cut this bolt with the dremmel and punch out through the top?
It looks as though I can but just wanted to check with the experts. I have already loosened the bolts for the diff crossmember to frame, and they were the only easy things to loosen, except for the drive shaft which were pretty much hand tight.
Don't have the answer to your question.... but I found your last comment kinda funny. When disassembling my entire rear suspension... my driveshaft U-joint bolts on the differential were also hand tight..... if that.... I was stunned.
Hello C3 Gurus,
can I cut this bolt with the dremmel and punch out through the top?
Thanks in advance
When I did my diff bushing, changing to a poly, the bolt gave way with a breaker bar. I pushed it through the top with no problem and replaced it with the new one I bought with the kit.
You do have a nice air compressor and an impact, right? It took all the rusty bolts off my suspension when I did it, and it was pretty rusty.
No not yet, but I was thinking of stealing money out of my wifes purse to go get one, no just haven't had time to get one. I saw one at a good looking price at COSCO though, it was right beside the picture to order caskets. It was only $109, sears had one with less gallons and same 3hp peak for way more money.
My problem with the rusty bolts is they just round off, so I have been saving time by just cutting them off. I'm going to replace them any way, I whsh I could have saved the shock mounts though.
Are you using 6 or 12pt sockets? 6pt are a lot less likely to round the bolts off with. Use the closed end of the wrench whenever possible. A fast jerk is more likely to break it free then constant pressure. Get some Tri-Flow. Great stuff. Excellent lubricant. Helps get some of those stuck bolts loose.
I had to trash my shock mounts too, but I didn't need them anymore.
