Stuck Hood Latches- HELP !
I bought a '73 L48, went to open the hood & pulling the release is not doing it. Is there a way to get to the latches in case the release cable brakes? I would imagine someone must have run into this before. thanks in advance for any help.

Melting Slicks
If your cowl area is the same as on mine there should be two pop-out plastic plugs directly behind the latches that let you stick a thin flatend screwdriver in there and into a slot in the hinge. Twist the screwdriver clockwise and it should pop the latches. Don't know if it's the same on a '73 or not, maybe someone else could help further.

By the wiper compartment there are two good size holes on the forward wall that allow you to release the latches with a screw driver. If the cable fails to release by jiggling the hood there is another alternative, go to the inner front wheel wheels and look for the bolts that hold down the hood front brackets. The bolts have to be slotted then backed out from the wheel well, on my 73 I had to remove a small fiberglass cover on the passenger side to get to the bolts then reglass it on, not the easiest way but you can get the hood off that way... been there and done that......
