I am about to have my halfshafts removed to replace the u-joints. While they are out, I was thinking of having them sand blasted with the intention of restoring them to original finish. Can anyone who has done this provide color info, or better yet, post a picture of a restored/refinished rear end. Also, is there a source of information about undercarriage refinishing? Thanks.
Once blasted I would coat them with POR15. This is a rust preventatve and goes on like paint and looks great when finished. It is commonly sold in black, however there are other colors available as well.
If you want to go down the "correct" route that you may want to join the NCRS (www.ncrs.org) and ge the judging manual. It's got all the info you would be looking for. There are also many good books out there.
If you want to make it look nice and not necessarily correct, than as mentioned, products such as POR-15 or others work great. I'm an Eastwood Deatil Gray or Cast Blast adict but that's just a preference thing.
Warning... Once you start, you won't stop. While you are at it, you might as well do this, and do that, and do the other thing!
