is their a trick to getting the metal trim off around the rear window of an 82? mines flakin an it looks like crap, would you think i should sand and paint, replace, or take it down to the chrome finish??
You can purchase are window trim removal tool from your local parts store. This will slide under the moulding and release the clip.
To paint the mouldings so the paint will not come off:
Sand off the old mouldings with 400 grit, then primer them with zinc chromate primer. It's available in a spray can too! After this is dry paint the moudings the color of your choice.
Other acid ecthing primers will work and you should consult your local paint and body supply shop as to the requirements for proper finish.
When done, the paint should stay on the car longer than the factory coating.

thank you very much, will definately give that a try
Be carefull not to break the plastic clips, To replace them you will have to remove the read window. I had to remove mine to replace all the clips. I also polished the stanless steel so the trim now looks chrome.
