Is it easier from the top or from underneath? I just got the pipes and haven't had time to take a good look. When I take off the regular headers that are there now I'm sure they will have to come out the bottom.
If they fit from the top, it's easier from the top since you don't have to lay on your back and get crap in your eyes. If they don't fit from the top, the only choice is from the bottom, so that's easier...
Sidepipe headers--like the Hookers--WILL NOT go in from the top. Don't waste your time trying. It's not going to happen.
They'll go in from the bottom and it will be handy to have an extra pair of hands up to to start a bolt or two once they're up there. Also, Hooker says to raise the car 36" off the ground. They're not joking, although it can be done on jack stands. Be very, very careful, though.
How do I get the thing 3 feet in the air? I have a Quicklift but the bottom of the car is no farther off the lift ramps than it would be off the ground. I have used jackstands on the lift quite often when the lift is in the raised position to do any "wheels off" type of work but there is still only clearance equal to the height of the jackstands. It just puts the car at a more comfortable working height.
You shouldn't have to go 3 feet in the air. I took my headers and pipes off all in one unit a couple weeks ago. FFvetteman showed me some pics in this thread http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=980613
I would have thought you had to go a lot higher than his pics but trust me, it can be done. John.
It looks like I should be able to set up the stands on the Quicklift and have the whole thing at a good working height. The car will already be on the lift from taking off the old exhaust system.
