Default WOOHOO got it working!!!

Finally after 3 days of headaches and wire running I finally got the factory alarm working, But only when the hood is raised the alarm goes off. I still am having trouble with the doors. Both my door ajar light on console comes on and so does the courtsey lights. So I am lost, the switches seem to be working and I am unclear how they tie in with the alarm.

Awesome job! Feels good to fix a difficult issue. Now get those doors alarmed
"BEEEP BEEEP BEEEP Move away from the vehicle "
"Please step away from the vehicle unless you are a sexy female with long legs in which case you can make yourself comfortable and I will be back momentarily..."

Oops.. got off the subject

My 76 has two sets of door switches. Does yours? I assume not since I'm sure you would have noticed them. Anyway, the ones below the strikers operate my alarm...the ones by the hinges operate interior lights. Hope you find your problem.

Yeah mine has two sets of switches. But the ones below the strikers only have two wires coming from them one light blue which runs to the dash "DOOR AJAR" light and the black is a ground. I have looked at the wiring diagram and cannot tie the alarm with either the black or the light blue wire. Very confusing.

You have a 69 right? In 69, the door ajar lights are activated by the switch in the back of the jamb. That's its' only function...door ajar light only.

The alarm and courtesy lights use the same switch...up by the hinge.

The alarm was optional in 69...that's why it has a separate harness, distinct from the "main" harness.

If you check the overall wiring diagram, you'll see that your door ajar lights should not be connected at all to the courtesy light switches....in 1969. Can't speak for other years. Chuck

I was thinking that, This book i was refering to was actually showing me a picture of the switch in the back of the door. I could not find anything to tell me different. The wiring diagrams I was using were from the assembly manual and I could not link the door ajar switch to the alarm. That is what was so confusing. One book was telling me the wrong info. Thanks Chuck. Maybe see you at Old town

Since I hadn't looked for awhile, I checked the 69 AIM, UA6 section. It shows the "special" harness plugged into the same switches as the courtesy lights...up by the hinge.

Sounds like your wiring has been hacked up/spliced. It's tough to chase down electrical problems, especially when things have been altered.

All I can say is "keep the faith". The diagram in the 69 AIM is identical to the wiring in my car. My alarm wiring is white.

Can't make Old Town this year. My wife and I are going on a cruise the first full week of February. Can't afford to take the time off to do both. The Florida NCRS meet is excellent. I've been there many times, at Cypress Gardens and at the Disney venue. You'll have a blast. Chuck
