Default Dual battery setup

I just got my isolator in the mail.

http://www.hellroaring.com/bic75150.htm

I got the 95150B since the sense resistor and diode are internal and it has transient suppression built in. Should make for a cleaner install.

I didn't get a jack when I got the car so the second battery will go in the jack compartment. The second battery will be a deep cycle battery for running the stereo/DVD, LCD, playstation and amplifiers. I can listen to the stereo, watch a movie or play a game while the car is parked at the show 'n shine without fear of running the battery down and having to get a jump.

The isolator isn't very big and will replace the junction block on the drivers side fender wall.

I can also get a higher amp alternator that will connect directly to the deep cycle battery and audio\video equipment and to the starting\stock electical system battery via the isolator and a 60 amp circuit breaker.

The best thing is if the starting battery goes dead I can give myself a jump.

I have a 13 year old son and he wanted one. Said it would be really cool to play a racing game while riding in the vette. Also wants to know when I will be finished with "his" car. I keep telling him that he can have it when I'm dead. For some reason he just replies "O.K. I turn 16 in three years."

Boy, does this sound familiar. I was just standing out in the garage making a list of repairs to do on the Vette and prioritizing them when the 15 year old came out. His comment: "you will have this ready in two years for my senior prom, right?". I just looked at him like he was an idiot and pointed him toward the '94 Taurus that he's learning to drive on. "Dad, come on! That's an old lady's car!". I just grinned.

Sounds pretty trick with dual batteries and all the gadgets.

I told my boys (10 and 8) that I will always be happy to help
them build their own car - someday soon.
"Just stay away from my vette. You two can fight over it when I'm dead."

My oldest has his eye on a 2012 model ... the year he graduates highschool.
Yeah - right !!

The way I would personally set this up and this is way mine will be. I run a 60-90amp alt. and a deep cycle battery for the main car electrical system. Then I run 0-2 awg wire to my yellow top through a 100-200 amp circuit breaker. All my audio electronics will run off this battery. I do not run any isolator at all its not manditory. When I want run my system with the car off I just flip the breaker that way my main battery always has power then once I start the car I flip the breaker back to recharge the yellow top. I have setup several systems this way and it works great.

Good luck
