Default Trick "Low-Buck" mods??

Hey, I'm wondering what sort of cool low or no-budget mods are out there to be had?? Any pics??

Anything cool that you've seen and want to pass along? I'm trying to get some ideas, and I KNOW I'm in the right place for that!!

A good tune up and advanced timing does wonders and it's fairly cheap.

the five finger discount and midnight auto supply are real cheap if you don't get caught.

Yup, flip the top of the air cleaner over and then add some stickers to the side windows. Worth 50 HP on the bench dyno.

Seriously, find the vacuum leaks and deal with them. Recurve the ignition if you have not done it yet then reset the initial timing to match the new curve. This is low buck and very rewarding for our smoggy C-3's.

Reduce backpreasure in exhaust system...

Reduce resistance of air flowing in.

Get the timing/mixture right

Cut some weight, less stuff in the car!

Run half a tank or less of gas when playing.

Remove the spare tire and carrier.

Cheap can also be internal parts. Cams can be found on the inexpensive side if you dont go name brand, or you go "already bought by someone else but not used." Heads and intakes can be found at junkyards. Aluminum is nice for both, but more expensive to get the heads in aluminum! An old high performance dual plane intake is good enough for stock heads. Used headers are ok if the flanges are true and they arent rusted to the point they have holes!

Light weight wheels... used draglights or other aluminum "old style" wheels are available. Pretty good bet, if its was cool in the 70's 80's or early 90's but isnt now... it may still be good for HP, but may not be as expensive as new. Although they might not be as "cool" to todays hotrodder.

Start there - especially put in lighter advance springs. Chevy's love advance.

Headers are also good bang for the buck, there are cheap ones if you are on a tight budget. Joe

Where do you guys get these lighter springs? Are you changing the weights also or just the springs?
Thanks

Use the stock weights; the spring/weight kit is available from Mr Gasket, I think. Joe

Thanks Joe....I'll check into that.
So....the idea is that lighter springs will allow the advance to happen faster??

I started off with some cool, low budget mods three years ago.

I'm now in the middle of a body off resto.

That's right. The factory settings had to consider low grade gas, emissions and poor maintenance. Joe

corey 68 hit it right on the money. My LARS tune woke up my ride. I think there are a fair amount of rides out there who havent even come close to the tuning mark and a simple tune done by an expert can bring out the beast that lives within. There is a C2 owner that has unbelievable dyno numbers on a NCRS correct engine (327) that was LARSafied then dyno'd. Try that first.
