I want to add a power antenna to my 71, but am not sure what one to use. I looked at Ecklers and they have 3 different ones ranging from 75 dollars to 140 dollars. I just want to know who out there has done this and what antenna did yall use.
I got the $49.99 Advance auto power antenna. This isn't a great pic, but if you need a closer view, I can take a pic for you. I like this antenna because it doesn't bubble up like the ones for sale in Ecklers for $140. And it works great..I even hooked up my own switch so i have full control of the antenna. Say if i listen to CDs, i can leave it down.
I got ripped off on mine I bought from Ecklers, Paid an arm and a leg. Piece of crap said a/c-delco in catalog, but was made in china. lasted less then 3 months and no warrenty.Save your money!!!!
Redhawk, Do you know model # of the one you bought from Advance? I may try it
Thanks
I'm not sure of the model number..it came in a plastic clear box, and had several different rubber boots whether you needed one flat or angled. I opted for the flat, and it lays pretty low. Hope this helps.
I am going to have to check that out 49.99 is alot better than ordering it from Ecklers and getting it shipped. How hard was it to put in? Needed to extend any wires or anything?
On my 78 we had to drop exhaust, wasn't that hard too install and colors matched but like I said in earlier post it was junk. Hope the one from Advance is better then one from Ecklers. Probally made same place......fricken CHINA
This is what the antenna looks like on the car. It wasn't hard to install..i don't have mufflers in the back, so no worries about that..I took off the original antenna plate, and made a little bracket to brace the bottom of the power antenna motor. I can't recall about the wires..i'll have to look...for some reason, i think i bought a wire for the back of my stereo unit and ran it back to the antenna motor. Its not hard, if you can wire a stereo, you can wire a power antenna.

I bought this one used off of a forum member a few years ago. I had it setting on the shelf waiting on new paint. Seems to work pretty good. I don't have the switch to turn it off so it goes up and down every time the key is turned on. I need to wire a switch in line with it, I like the looks of the car with the antenna down.
I bought two Hirschmann units off of ebay a few years ago -- one for a daily driver, one for the vette. Both seemed to be good quality and the hook up was simple enough. At the time I think the Buy-it-Now price I paid was about $35 each plus shipping. Here's a link to one on ebay now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33639
In my searchs I heard that Hirschmann was a decent univeral brand. And I know they make OEM units for the German luxury cars, so I went with them.

Mine looks just like the one Redshark6974 has on his Vert. Believe it or not it has been on my 73' since the early 80's and works great. I don't have the original radio in my car anymore and have a Pioneer am/fm cassette also installed at the same time the antenna was. The antenna goes up and down with the main switch on the Pioneer radio. You should be able to pick up one of these power Antennas at just about any parts store. I owned a Carquest parts store back then and I purchased it through them. They are inexpensive.
