How do you install a dipstick tube into the block on a small block. I have two tubes on GM, one chrome aftermarket and both don't seem to want to go into the block. It's as if the tube is to large for the hole. I don't want to pound it as not to do damage......
Most of the ones I have seen I put some RTV on them for sealer, and critically orient them to line up, and they tap home with a screwdriver or wrench over the tube ridge there....
Don't know if it makes a difference which year, or if left side or right side tube, but on my '69 sm. block it just slides in snugly with no pounding & I use a little silicone sealer around it.

even with my engine out and with full access i could not get the chrome one in.......... i just used my old one ...it had been loose and i flared the end with the shaft of a hole punch to expand it slightly
