I have a 71 BB and would like some feedback from those who converted to a Traverse front mono spring. I searched the forum but did not find much.
For those who have it, how is the ride compared to springs etc.
The ride is much better and adjustable for ride height and firmness. My only problem with the system is that the outboard bolts that attach the spring to the control arm are so long that they WILL dig in if you ever have a flat front tire with 15 inch wheels. My car has 17 inch wheels and it may not drag, but it will darn sure be close.

Has anyone had that problem before? I can see where that might become an issue...eeks!
I took a couple of pics when I did the install. I used the spring set iup without new A arms. I love it.. 4 way adjustable and ride height adjustable. Using Bilstein sports
We have never had any problems with 15,16 or 17 inch wheels using this kit. There will be no ground clearence problems upon a flat tire. This kit comes with 8" bolts that attach the spring to the control arms, we do not recomend using anything longer than that because you may have an issue then. Somebody called me a few days ago and asked about using a 10" bolt and I told him not to. This is completely adjustable for ride height and spring rate.

Thanks in advance.
Excellent product! I install this system in all our Corvettes. Helps much with autocrossing. To increase the turning radius you will need to take away some material away at the stops on the lower control arms. I have never had a problem with the height adjustment bolts.

Are those 17 inch wheels that the bolts are sitting lower than in the picture Vettedan?
I've never had a flat tire on my Corvette and do not plan on it since I don't carry a spare but that bolt just worrys me. I like the mounting that Timbo79 has with the bolt reversed. I will check my car to see if there is clearance to turn the bolts over.

I sold this Corvette last year, but I believe the bolt doesn't protrude past the 16" wheel. I don't think the bolt will hit the ground with a flat tire.

I use the car for a daily driver in the good weather and like to take it out on the back roads on the weekends. Would I still benifit from this mod or is it mostly for x-cross and drags.
How much can you lower the car with this verus a coilover?
A true full coilover is going to be superior to this system in all aspects. You can make the car as low as you want, it depends on how you design the system. Now the speed direct semi-coilovers don't get the car very low and aren't worth the effort. My full coilover setup has the front end at 25.5" at it's lowest and that's where I'm keeping it.
I personally am not too fond of the traverse composite monoleafs. It tends to ruin the independence of the suspension. It does what it is supposed to though, be a lightweight adjustable alternative. There really isn't much need to adjust the ride height of the system or the spring rate once you have it set how you like it. With the coilovers you set the ride height where you want it, then corner weight it, then you don't touch it. Obviously all the adjustability is nice for when you go to different tracks, but isn't necessary at all in a street car. The easily adjustable shocks can be used to stiffen or soften the ride.

When I had the car on the rack and had the bolts facing down I got worried on the clearance issues as well. In fact I thought I had screwed up as it was late and I thought I had reversed the instructions. So I reversed the bolts to how you see in the pic. It has been no problem and works well. Those bolts coming down scared me a bit. Looks as though I did it right the first time. No matter, as I have not given much thought to it since I did it.
It is a very good mod.
How do you like the complete setup? Spring and Steeroids.
I bought the car with the spring already installed, so I can't compare that way. In theory, it seems doubtful that the front spring can really do anything other than add adjustability to your car. If you already like your ride height and your car handles the way you like, then leave in the coils.
I don't like steeroids. I've stated several times in old threads that I thought it was severely overboosted. I do have one more comment to add about it that many would consider positive: I've recently driven a C5, and felt that it was also overboosted. Steeroids actually feels pretty similar to the C5 (at least during regular driving - I didn't get to really abuse the C5), so go for it if you like that feel. I guess I'm strange in that I much prefer the stock C3 system... Also, the problems with having very light steering are exaggerated in my car because the springs are very stiff. It's too hard to control the car on rough roads when your arms are bouncing around and you can hardly feel the steering wheel at all.
