I am wondering if any of you guys would know how think of spacer i would need to put the 17 inch zr1 rims on my 1981 corvette? thanks for any info!!!
Ryan.
the rims that i am wanting to put on are the ones floating around ebay, the offset on them is 56mm. also will a 17-9.5 fit at all 4 corners? thanks again.
Ryan.
I don't believe a 17x9.5 will fit in the front unless you get and oversized adaptor and then your wheel will stick out the side of your fender and will have problems with rubbing and so on.
You have to find out the back spacing of the Wheel. I ran 1 inch adapters with 9.5's and and 2 inch with my 11X17 rears.
You also have to think about 550 # front springs so they don't hit body and mine brush the 1.1/8 sway and frame on full lock. Not a big deal just don't do it.
You car will handle like a go kart with correct alignment with sticky wide low profile tires. Just step up to the plate and do it :o
i got the 2.5" front and 3" rear wheel adaptors from VBP years (and years and years ago). i haven't had a problem with them but i can tell you a couple things.
1) you will never get true ZR-1 rear wheels to fit without some sort of reconstructive surgery.
2) 8.5" front is preferable for clearance issues. i will run the 9.5" on the front for track events and i do get some contact with the inner fender well and sway bar at full lock. 2.5" with a 245/40-17 on an 8.5" wheel in the front is probably your best combination. probably also your best combination in the rear also.
3) on the rear, the 8.5" rim on a 3" adaptor is just barely within the fender lip (very cool). 9.5" on the same adaptor is just barely outside the lip.
4) as long as your suspension is tight and relatively stiff, you shouldn't have any problems with rubbing the fenders.
if your interested, i have multiple pictures with both 8.5" and 9.5" wheels on my car.
what i believe your looking for (or maybe should be) is the '96 GS convertible or collector edition wheels. those would be the most correct wheels for what you want to do.
Thanks a lot everyone! if you wouldn't mind sending me those pics, that would be awesome! it will give me a idea on what look i want! thanks again.
