Default front parking light /blinker woes..

i have developed a little issue courtesy of the electrical gremlins....my front parking lights which have always worked fine, don't work fine any more.....drivers side: no blinker, parking light works ok; Passenger side: no parking light, blinker works ok....both of the side marker lights work fine...its not the bulbs , and not the connections inside.....where are these lights grounded? also my inside drivers side blinker indicator on the dash glows faintly... any thoughts? thks bob

checked and replaced bulbs with known good ones, no difference, even swapped them still no difference, cleaned connections in socket with sand paper, no difference, rear blinkers and front side markers all work ok so i don't see how it could be the flasher unit....any thoughts? i'm thinking i have a ground disconnected somewhere any body have any good locations to check....all other lights work fine....

thks bob

On mine, it was a grounding issue. I ran a wire from the housing screw to a good ground.

Cant add any value...mine has been doing the same thing for a couple of months now, but haven't gotten around to investigating it.
Thanks for mentioning it though...I'll follow this one closely.

Bob do you have a schematic on the car? I have one but it's 12 miles away!
I don't recall if there is a common ground connector? There should be a ground wire to the left front of the radiator support about 3/4 way down from the top of the support. Ground terminal comes out of the light harness.

Fixed more than one of those in my interior redo, it seemed over the years a 71'has more than a few rub points to short out to ground. Hear is a pict of one of my gremlins, but all is well now and no squeaks.

resizes never work for me, i have to rename the picture and then resubmit it...hope i don't have that problem of the rubbed wire...

Thks Gary that was the first place i went to and filed the area down to bare metal and reconnected it... no luck.. i have a schematic, it seems like what i really need is a wiring harness diagram, i wonder if they make one of those? ..spent some more time on it today and i was able to get the pass side parking light to work by carefully filing the contacts for a while.... all the grounds checked out ok in both of the light sockets.....so now its down to one issue the drivers side front blinker is not working although the side marker is working fine....

any thoughts?????? thks bob

before i kill myself chasing wires, does a flasher unit ever malfunction so that only one of the two blinkers will work, ie the drivers side back works and the drivers side front doesn't, while the drivers side marker is flashing ok? tks bob

Default Had same problem and cured today.

I had the same problem on my 79. It is a ground problem and bad connections. On the underside of the front lip between both head lights tucked behind the wires is the main ground for the front lights.(all). The other is at the lower dirvers side corner of the raditor support. (front side). I Unfastened the grounds and sanded the corrsion of them and the body. Then I cleaned with a points file all the connections for my marker lights and running lights. This fixed all problems and cured the problem of the dim turn signal on the dash.,

Nope. If it works for one side, it will work for the other

thks guys this is an old thread.....problem turned out to be the physical connector that is on the drivers side up by the radiator core support.
