A girl I work with told me that the way so goes home there is a place that has two C3 vettes for sale.Well I can also go this way home if I want to so I went by to check them out.The first is I think a 79.It has the same front as a 78.It also had a rear bumper like my 82.Would this be correct for a 79?It had new paint(Cream color)with new leather Cream colored seats that looked like they used new foam under the covers.The rest of the interior was so so but was all there.The price was $6000.00.There wasn't anyone around to talk to so I didn't really look any further.Now for the 78 pace car that I think is a fake.Car had pace car front and rear spoliers and a pace car paint job with no decals.The hood did have the stripe around the scoop part and said L82.Now I'm not to up on the pace car but didn't they have silver tops?This had black tops.Also the interior looked orginal and did not have the pace car seats but the regular 78 seats in leather.The wheel did not have a horn cap so that didnt' tell me anything.I don't know if they had a special center horn cap like my 82ce has.It did have the 25th anny emblems and front end.I'm thinking regular 78.Can anybody tell me what to look for to maybe make a better call on this.I still think it's a fake.There was no price on it.Both cars are auto.I want more info so when I go back tomorrow I can see what he tries to sell me and how I can make him come down in price.Other that being a fake it is a fairly nice car.

 

On '78 Pace Cars ONLY in the VIN # the eigth digit will be a "9", not the usual #"4" for non-pace cars in this position.

The vin will tell if it is a pace car.
The pace cars had glass tops, but one of mine cracked so I can see why someone would switch to black ones.
Look at the rims, pace cars had a red paint ring around the rims.
The horn has the 25th emblem, same as the hood and gas tank.

The interior should be silver

 

The interior was all black with no indication that is was ever sliver.Also didn't have the red rings around the rims.I'm sure it's not real.I'm just interested if he tries to tell me it is.I'm mean if it's cheap enough I might just get it because it's not that bad of a car.I'd say in the $5000.00 range with 5 being tops.It does say L82 on the hood but thats up for debate.Also Car is an auto.Most of the interior if not all needs redying but a first glance seems to be all there.Seats are not ripped at all and are leather.

 

Makes you wonder what else is fake

 

I forgot to tell you the decals came in the car and not on it.
It was the buyers choice to put them on or not.

 

yea i was gonna mention the vins on the PC was unto themselves, seperate from other 78 vettes. there are lots of fakes out there. my 78 has every pace car option, including the silver interior, but its got a regular vin plate. but who cares anyhow? buy that thing and git r done!
