In the March 05 issue of Popular Hot Rodding ( page 103 and 104) a man writes a letter to the Tech Department. He must be an Oxford English professor based on the writing style. He is obviously PO because an acquaintance with a 2004 Z06 has been dissing his 75 coupe's L48 performance. He intends to do something about it. You gotta read it. One of the funniest letters I have ever read to a HR rag.
He picked up an issue of PHR and reads about a 383 build up making 485HP. Then he goes to the Nitrous Express web site and starts shopping nitrous systems. First he looks at the 200 HP system, then 500 HP and finally the 1000HP. He figures he can end up with 1485 HP and smoke his buddies Z06. The tech editor at PHR sets him straight "first Jordan we got to rein you in......"
You got to read it. I laughed my AZZ off.
This a classic example of how this hot rodding stuff gets started.
It's not hard to wake up an L48, especially if you live in an area where there are no smog inspections. You can still do it and be smog legal, but it takes more effort/money. Getting it to run with a Z06 might be a bit of a challenge, but if you just have to do it in a straight line it wouldn't be all that imposing a problem.

Why is a Corvette owner trash talking another Vette owner in the first place?
Some C5 owners don't seem to understand what 51 years of history means. If it were not for the styling and popularity (and sales milestones) of mid 70's Corvettes, Vettes might not have survived the oil crisis and emission regulations. then the bragging Z06 owner would be stuck in an over-hyped, underpowered Rustang. Thanks, Corvette for surviving the dark ages with style and class.
Save the Wave! (that's another issue I have with some C5 drivers)
OK, let me calibrate this discussion a little. I didn't mean to cause a "us versus them" thing with C3 versus C5 Z06 corvettes. Our cars look great and can be made to perform great. The C5 really does perform very well and also look great right out of the box. Of course they don't look nears as good as a C3.
And I don't mean to make fun of the gentleman that is trying to upgrade his C3. This apparently conservative man (he describes his 75 as "medium camel") got lit up. He directly approached the problem, bought a copy of Popular Hot Rodding, read it in detail and asked the main question to the tech editor. And I believe he is going to get there. I would direct him to this forum if I knew how to contact him.
Does no one but me take Popular Hot Rodding? And read the letter and response?

They're just mad that the humble C3 gets more attention at car shows. I remember not too long ago you barely saw a wave from a C4 driver.
most C4 & 5 (and now 6, i guess) drivers just look at me in my C3 as if to say, "who the hell are you and why do you think you're good enough to "communicate" with me. i'm not sure some of them even realize a C3 IS a vette.

"stupider"? Do you mean "more stupid"? (just yanking your chain...I agree)
