Default need help identifying heads and manifold

need forum members help. 79 L82 BUT modified with aluminum heads and aluminum intake manifold.

part numbers

manifold - 14007378 with the letters GMCM underneath

heads - 14100128 with the letters F2 above and SR below.

are these both GM parts??? what spark plugs should be used with these heads? gap? (i'm running MSD digital 6 ignition also), headers with true dual exhaust, no pollution controls. what kind of compression should i be getting? HP estimate?

thanks for any and all info.

Casting Number 14007378 is late 1979 L-82 intake.

I do not belive the heads are C3 Corvette.

i don't either. they are aluminum and i'm not aware of any aluminum on any late C3 engines. i thought L82 had cast iron manifold. mine is aluminum. how can i determine what the heads are from. is there a publication or website for these number?

Ghost - I'm not sure you got the right head #, I'm showing14101128 GM. This # is 86-87 Alum.- 58cc angle plug.
350. Go to www.mortec.com for accurate chevy casting #'s

o.k. i did it the hard way. went to barnes and nobles and looked it up in the chevy small block parts interchange manual.

the book only has a one line entry. it says 14101128 are
86-87 aluminum, 58cc, angle plug heads.

can anybody tell me what the recommended spark plug for this head would be??

also, what compression ratio should i expect. and is there anything special or unusual about angle plug heads? why are they made that way?

The '79 L82 had an aluminum manifold. Bottom line: You have the original manifold with a set of L98 heads from an 86-87 Vette.

what spark plug does the L98 use? is the combustion chamber the same as the 79 L82 chamber?

i don't like the low end, but the mid range rocks (2500 to 5000 rpm seems to be the sweet spot).

That head was originally used on a TPI engine that had all the low end you wanted. As far as plugs, start with stock 87 L98 Corvette as an application.

That has more to do with the original L82 cam than the replacement heads. The L82 doesn't wake up until it gets over 2000 rpm -- a good candidate for a higher stall converter (I have a 2200 stall unit).

The L98 heads were designed with TPI in mind. They have 58cc chambers (thanks to knock sensors it became possible), but they don't flow very well, nor do they have any features of the later Vortec heads. Basically an aluminum version of the classic stock small block head.

On the plus side, your engine is now an excellent candidate for a TPI swap.

CR depends on the pistons, you could be over 10.5:1 with flattops. I don't know if L82s came with dished pistons though. Joe

L82 engines had flat top pistons with a single indentation for the valves; ie., the pistons can only be installed with the indent facing up...otherwise...BAM!
