Default 427 engine weight HELP!!!!!

I purchased a 68 corvette "439" motor in November out of Washington State. At the time of purchase I told the freight company the engine weight was 550 to 600lbs. The freight company just sent me an additional freight bill of $213.00. They claim the engine weight was over 800lbs.

To dispute the additional weight charge, the freight company is requireing that I come up with a GM documentation stating the dry weight of a 427 engine.

I need help in providing this info. Where can I go to find this info?

Tell us what was on the pallet - complete mill minus carb and exhaust manifolds...? The full monte is easily over 600 pounds, plus you have to add in the weight of the pallet/straps as I am sure they charge you for every pound they put on the truck... I'm sorry but my books are not all with me so I can't look it up for you...

Complete minus exhaust manifolds. The engine had carb. but not the breather. The freight broker is wanting something with GM's name on it so they can make a disbute with the freight company. When I contacted these corvette engine companies they told me their engines weighed in the mid-500lb range. I thought I was conservative at 600lbs.

I remember the sight of my first BB on a 1000-lb engine hoist. It was bowing that baby a bit! It had flywheel and balancer on it, ready to go back in the car. I have to think it was over 600 lbs (maybe pushing 800?), but just have no way to confirm for you from here... Anybody else?
