The question is how much do u want to spend? As far as $10 canned spray paint u would need the high temp to handle manifold heat. Well any engine paint will do as all stock iron intakes came painted - but even stock intakes seemed to burn at the exh x-over. Now POR15 does make a paint just for exhaust manifolds but now we're up to $20/pt and need spray equip to apply unless u plan to brush on and pray. Powder coating is advertized for intakes and what i think i will someday use for most engine compt parts but now up to $150 for equip and a 400* oven is required.
Yea i've been looking at reasonable paint for my hood hinges and don't want to spend a fortune just to have nice looking hinges. But the locking hood joint gets handled every time the hood goes down so i need something that pretty much oil smudge and scratch resistant. Really like carls gold pieces (gold radiator braces are a nice touch) but don't know how they hold up to washing brushes (scratch resistant) and oil smudge. Guess i would like some thing as tough as plating but don't want to send mine out for this or gear up for the powder coating right now.
I do know i would just clean any [B]aluminum[B/] intake with [I]Blue Majic[I/] metal cleaner ($5 Pep Boys). It cleans deap enough to remove oil grunge marks - just rub it in until it darkens then wipe off. Also has some polish in it to protect. But if ur intake is painted of course u have to deal with removing that first. Or if intk is iron ur back to first base again to spray paint.
Keep posting until u get a good answer Chris. cardo0
I'm actually just waiting for mine to dry. I was told that an intake will not get hotter than 400 to 450 degrees. The dupont 500 degree paint says its good for intakes and thats what I used. If you can get the 1200 degree I'm sure it will be fine. Be careful though becaue the paint will not hold up as well if you get fuel or antifreeze on it. As long as you make sure you have a good seal for all your fluids the paint will work great. It looks great too.
