Default What Is This

I dont know how to post a picture so I will try and describe it:

Behind the front turn signals on our 69 there is a rubber piece that has what lools like a red lens and a single wire out the back. The wire comes out of the harness. They are hanging down on each side of the car. Does anyone know what it might be and where it goes?

That does sound like the fiber optics. the lens should be amder on the fronts though. The rubber fits into the turn signal housing and the lens is pushed into it. The "wire" is actually the fiber optic cable that goes in to the lens, then to the console fiber optic plate.

Fiberoptics. Should fit right in top of the turnsignal housing.

If I had to guess, I'd say the fiberoptic strand from each light. They eventually end up in your center console. If you didn't know any better, you'd think they were wires from their appearance. If they are hanging down, does that mean someone cut them?

Here's a link to show what the end at the console looks like from the bottom...the console is upside down and I'm removing the ends of the fiber optics from their lenses. You can see where the leather for the shifter is.

It's definitely the fiberoptics, but in the front, you should have the gray rubber grommet with an amber plastic gizmo in it. That way, it transmits amber toned light to the console.

The rears had red....transmitted red light, and as I recall, the license light was clear, transmitted clear light.

Original parking light and tail light houses used with fiberoptic cars had a hole in the back of the case to insert the gray rubber grommet.

Parking and tail light houses designed for cars without the fiberoptics don't have the hole. Chuck
