Mike, I think if your required list includes a 4 speed and matching numbers it will be hard to find for under $16K. Such a car is going to have some issues. I would increase my budget or consider a NOM. They can also bring you a lot of pleasure and could probably be bought at your price. Good luck in your search.

I have no problem with something that needs a little work as long as it runs and has good bones. I fully expect the car to have some issues at that price. My ultimate goal is to restore the car so I want to make my efforts worth it. Thats why I want something NM.

Just my 2 cents. A $16K car will end up costing you $35K. OR, you can buy a nice one with little/no issues for $30K, and save the agony.

May I suggest buyavette.net in Atlanta. I just purchased my 78 L82 4spd s/a paint car from them. Their after the sale service has been incredible...way above and beyond. Their showroom is like one of the finest vette museums there is.
If you go to look at a car ask for Aaron. Great guy.

A year and a half ago I bought a 72 coupe, NOM, 4 speed with AC....Solid frame and birdcage black on black, it needed paint for 13,300. I now have close to 16,500 in it....I knew the market for 70-72 4 speed coupes like the back of my hand back then.....You will have to get real lucky to find the car you're after for under 16k.
Good luck and enjoy the hunt....

You probably don't want to import from Canada but there is one for sale that might give you an idea of what you could find. For the equivalent of 13k USD you can get one that is in restorable condition but original color is War Bonnet yellow. I'm not sure if we can post links here but the website is kijiji.ca

Found Her!
I just wanted to give everyone a quick update. Thanks to a fantastic forum member I was able to get a great deal on a sweet 72 C3. I was able to get everything on my want list except NM engine. It’s a drivers ready car and I and so excited to start driving her when the weather warms up!

Now, take out that smog motor and put it on an engine stand.....Get a 383 Stroker with a hurst 4 speed and have some real fun..
Oops, you said not original motor...Maybe there's a Stroker in it already.....In that case , you stole that car......Nice find....Enjoy...

I guess that's better than a non-corvette engine? not to mention 100 hp more than the stock engine in 1972.

Looks like you found a winner! It looks like or close to Targa Blue too. My favorite Corvette color ever made to boot!
