ON MY 92 COUPE. THE TWO DOOR HATCH RELEASE SWITCHES WORK
SOMETIMES. THE CONSOLE MOUNTED SWITCH ALWAYS WORKS.
I REMOVED AND CLEANED AND CHECKED BOTH SWITCHES, AND ALSO TRIED A NEW SWITCH , BUT IT DON'T ALWAYS WORK. IS THERE A MAIN CONNECTION TO THE CONSOLE OR ELSEWHERE THAT I'M MISSING ?
THANKS
i have that problem but i have noticed that when i open
the door and the interior lights are on the rear hatch
button works.....but at times the interior lights don't
come on and thats when the rear hatch button on the door
doesn't work....don't know how deep i wanna go with
this so for now, i just close and open the door again !
thinkin its got someyhing to do with the light cutoff
on the door.
the reason the center console one works is because its a cable tht runs back to the hatch, the 2 door switches are switches tht use electrical contact/wiring.
ok, but the console switch is a powered switch. it does make sense what
the last reply about the interior lights being on, they work,if they're off, they don't, so it must have something to do with the lighting timer or security system. if anyone else has an idea, we'll learn about this little mystery.
thanks,
harry
Mine does the same thing too. On my '94 the console button is a powered switch, I've had the console out and apart several times. An electrical plug goes to the button, I don't know what it is on other years.
I found what was going on with my Hatch switch on the door. The button on the door that turns the lights on has to be out before the hatch switch will work. I opened my door and the hatch switch did not work but while holding the hatch switch down I pressed in on the button that turns on the lights and when i let it snap quickly back and the hatch opened. There must be a connection in that button that gets dirty or hangs up. I'll take it out and spray it with WD40 and see if that fixes it.
The WD40 fixed it for me. Don't take the button switch out, I did and found out that the screws don't screw directly into the door but into a flange behind the door. If that flange get pushed back where you cant reach it you would have to pull the door panel off to get to it to get the screws back in.
