I did this to my Fiat, years ago. Put an Orion 2125sx subwoofer amplifier in the front trunk (engine is in rear), I accidently left the wires off of the speaker and the positive lead touched the negative lead. Turned on the head unit, jacked up the level on it, and in my horror watched as a cloud of smoked billowed out of the front of the car. Price of stupidiy - $1200 amplifier. Then I took it to work the next day so I could replace the transistors in it, left it overnight and the cleaning crew threw it out. I at that point I just figured I just wasnt supposed to have that amp.
Ok, one more story, this has nothing to do with a vette either.
My neighbor shot his 97 chevy fullsize truck with white paint I let him have. He said "oh ive painted plenty of times" and he taped up his truck and shot it in his garage. He forgot to add hardener to it. You could go up to his truck and put your thumb print into the paint weeks after he shot it
Looked great from 50 feet away, until you got up close to the paint and noticed all the thumb prints that his friends kept putting on it.
