Default Yet another Question from the Knight

I've been looking around for a while now to find a nice C4 and this question occurred to me: How long will an undeployed air bag last before it should be replaced for safety reasons?

I ask this because even a '96 is nine years old and that's a long time. So as always, I turn to you my brothers! What say you?

I'm far from being an expert on air bags, but my '93 has not deployed yet.

My understanding is that unless it requires regular service (and their will be a warning label on the underside of the centre console) then the airbag remains "ready for use" at any time. Some vehicles require that the air bag receive regular service. My 91 Coupe has a label that says it requires no regular service, so I don't worry about mine...but I could be wrong?

I remember reading somewhere that you should have the air bag system/sensors, etc., checked every 10 years. Does that mean you have to? Of course not. If it makes you feel safer, then by all means do so, but remember the dealer or whomever will be checking it will be getting paid an hourly rate. If you're thinking about having them checked, call ahead and ask how long the procedure takes and how much it costs and then get that in writing.

If it makes you feel comfortable, have it checked. I believe that the 96s have an 8 bit microcontroller built into the airbag package and runs a self check on all the systems upon starting the car.

Default Air bag service

My Air Bag services itself when it combs it's hair and puts on makeup
