Default does your 89 have this part......

I have been trying to locate a name for this particular part it doesnt show in my micro fiche breakdown. here goes:
Where the hood pins go into the striker plate when the hood closes...this is the squarish box type plates on each sode of the cowl in front of the winshield. The hood release cable runs to this striker box...BEHIND and INSIDE the striker box is a 1 1/2 inch block of foam rubber that runs from the striker plate ( a thick block of rubber about the size of a bar of soap) and has ATTACHED to it a rubber aprox one inch strip of rubber seal/weatherstrip that goes from the striker box down the side of the cowl and ends at the top of the removable fender. I have found the right side block part but it differs from the OE part becuase it doesnt have the 6 in strip that runs from the striker to the top of the fender. Woudd other 89 owners(maybe other years too, mine is conv) look at your car and see if yours has this and what is might be called. I want two new ones that are of the OE type, I dont care if its OE or not as long as it has the lower part attached to it. The block and lower strip is supposed to a ONE peice design. Like a big "L" shape seal with the thick rubber block that sets in the striker box. WHEW..lot of typing!

How does this sound, get rid of the rubber entirely.

It causes more problems then it solves. by removing it, you allow more air to exit the engine compartment, keeping the engine compartment cooler!

I think you are talking about this peice of rubber.
Whether it is or not, I would take a picture of what you need, email it to a few suppliers; Ecklers, Corvette America, and ask them if they have it in stock.

FWIW, I just looked at my 89 and it's definitely a one piece seal.
