Default Three Wheel Deal

oh, about 3 miles from home after work I notice a vibration.
I pull over on a side street, get out, and do a quick walk around.
Everything seems ok.
It gets real bad about 1.5 miles out. I drive nice n slow.
Turning the right hand corner into the neighborhood something bad happens

Luckily I was only going bout 10 miles an hour at this point.
I ran home two blocks and loaded up the 9C1 w/ my harbor freight jack, tire iron, and 'spare'.
When I got back the sheriffs dept was already there w/ lights on.
I got it taken care of.

HOLY CRAP!!! that could have been dangerous at highway speeds!!! Glad you are okay. Any idea what caused that? At least you now have the perfect reason to score some 11" ZR1's .

Good thing you were going slow (and close to home). Sorry to see that, but happy to hear nobody got hurt.

That's one of my worst nightmares to either lose a wheel or have one come apart at speed.

Glad you are OK.

Isn't it funny how if you had waited for the cops it would have taken 2 hours, but the minute you leave the car they show up immediately. (same thing happened to me once)

I would think GM would like to buy that one back for testing.

These are just regular ol chrome sawblades. never used for the track and I don't ever recall hitting a curb or anything else w/ 'em. Yep, I'm already thinking about ZR1's. I've always loved those on the C4. Maybe in chrome too.

Ouch!! That would have been catastophic if it happened while out cruising. Glad you survived w/o injury or damage to your car. BTW...nice paint color!

Just curious, are those wheels chromed GM wheels or aftermarket??

The sawblades are off my '92 and I have ZR1 wheels on it.

I can't help wondering if chrome might have helped mask that problem until it was too late. Also, I don't know if this would apply at street speeds or not but some years ago Nascar banned chrome wheels because of a problem with keeping wheel weights on them. I'm glad you got out of this no worse than you did!

They are GM wheels, not knock offs.
For sale: 3 chrome saw blades!

You might be better off saving 2 of those for drag radials

The chroming process invariably weakens metal.

Holy Crap I really think you should notify GM to try and figure out what the heck happened that could have been extremely hazardous. glad nothing happened that is freaky.

That's scary! Not much holding those sawblades together is there? Just took the center right out of it. Unbelievable. I think I would be making some phone calls on that one.

Are you the original owner? That wheel may have been bent up and repaired before your ownership. Unless you are the original owner that would be my guess.

OMG!! That's horrible. Thank God you weren't going any faster ... like tooling on the interstate or something. That's terrible. I hate to see a pretty wheel like that bite the dust. Hope it all works out for you.
