Default Weekly Wash?

Hey

I'm wondering if I should wash my car every week. I can keep it clean and looing like its been washed all week, but should I worry about contaminents like pollution that I can't see? I have 2 coats of wax on it already, but I'm just wondering if it needs to be completely washed. Thanks.

If the car has just a coating of dust have you looked into a California Duster or equivlent?

I sometimes use the Mequires touch up when the car isn't to dirty. Saves on the water bill. Plus I was told by a detailer that it prolongs the life of the wax.
Take a look at my "I feel better" thread. Just dusted her off with the duster.

sure.. wash it. i wash mine all the time.. just make sure i have nice clean cloths and nice thick terry towels. i like the california duster idea too.. the only think i don't like is the bits of wax residue it leaves sometimes. they say it goes away after a while, but i don't see it. still like it though,

Wash it when it gets dirty, dust it off w/California Duster when it gets dusty, and in between, detail it with some sort of "Detailer" It's a car!! If it's out of doors the sun will shine on the paint, air particles will brush across the finish and pollution will get all over it. But that is the price you pay to have it outside.

Don't you know that washing it will wash the paint off?? *LOL*

I always hate that comment from stupid neighbours and general public who see me washing my vehicles on a regular basis and chuckle "golly gee, you're gonna wash the paint right off that thing, hyuck hycuk." Ya right moron, get in your $45,000 SUV and drive the sh** out of it and trade it in for $6500 in 5 years beause it's starting to rust and you haven't changed the oil since you bought it, etc.... and then we'll see who's chuckling.

I'll be the one in my driveway washing my 20 year old (in 5 years) mint 91 Corvette that I own outright and you'll be on your way to the bank trying to figure out how to afford a $650 car payment for the next 4 years.

Muahahahahahaha.....

Wash it even when it doesn't need to be washed. I wash mine for fun.

I have never seen a car suffer from being washed too much. Then again, I wouldn't know. I HATE washing cars. I know, it's weird. I also hate returning pop bottles in those stupid machines. I guess that I find both tasks tedious. At least washing the vette doesn't take all that long... not much surface area.

Default Washing

I've been around a few years, and BY THE WAY see the thread on owner ages - WE WON!

My rule is not to wash if it doesn't need it. Unless done absolutely right, washing can grind in some dirt instead of washing it off. I just california brush after use, unless it has obviously picked up something - bugs, road tar, lower panel dirt, etc. and then I wash it.

But I will tend to wash every few weeks anyhow just for fun.

I have a duster, and use it daily. Just wondering if anything else could hurt it that I don't see. What about waxing it. Can I wax it if the car looks to be clean and dust free? Or should I wash before every waxxing?

I get tired of my neighbors telling me I'm going to make it rain because I'm out washing the vette. I just tell them "that's ok..by then it will be in the garage clean, safe and dry." LOL

Keeping your car waxed and washing your Vette once a week will keep it looking like new.

I like washing and waxing my cars. It's relaxing for me, as I can sit in the drive on a lawn chair to take a break whenever I want. No schedules, no set amount of time. I'm done when I get done.

I agree with what most of the other's have said. I wash mine when it gets dirty or once a month (which ever comes first), use a California Duster when it gets dusty and use a detailer at least once a week. I also wax it at least every 6 months. Just like many Vette owners, my neighbors all think I'm a little crazy; but like Kwikerthanu said, I find washing, detailing and keeping my vehicles clean a great way to releive stress and relax

I wash it when it needs it, after a long trip, or when I cant use the duster to get the dust off.

Most of the time the duster is all it needs, with an occasional touch up of detail spray. Having a black car means I am dusting almost every day in the garage before I drive it anywhere.

My, MY, what an attitude!! Have you ever stopped to think that all your "stupid neighbors" and "moron SUV owners" are maybe just paying you a compliment with their own taste of humor included, that telling you that you "might wash the paint off" is just their way of saying they notice you keep your car up!! Gee, wouldn't they be surprised to know what you really think of them. You should be just a little embarrassed and instead, just smile and tell them "Thanks" for the compliment. That would be more neighborly for sure!!

Good for you that you aren't buying vehicles that quickly depreciate, but remember someone has to, for if not, GM and the rest of the Good Ol' American automakers would soon be out of business. Just kind of lighten up, yaknow??

I wash mine 1-2x a week, its white so it shows dirt alot, usually i rinse it off at the self-serve wash during the week and then if there is a good few nice days coming i wash it by hand and the whole 9 yards
