...i'm getting alot of brake dust build up on my left front wheel...thinking of installing brake dust shields....anybody else installed them? how well do they work?
Your'e still going to get some dust build-up. The factory wheels use the "vanes" designed into the wheel to get air to pass thru the wheel and cool the brakes. A shield will restrict the airflow and you may see excessive heat in the brakes which can raise the temperature of the brake fluid to the point where it will boil and result in serious brake fading.
Are you not getting dust on the other wheel?? It sounds like there is either different pad types installed or one brake caliper is not working properly.
brake dust is always a nuisance (it seems),but if its uneven i would be for taking it apart and seeing why.
you may have some scoring on the left rotor or the right brake may not even be working.does it pull under hard braking?
as far as those shields go,find a pic of some installed, you will likely pass on that option.with most wheels they are pretty ugly.(uglier than dust anyway)
dont know about which pads are better for dust, but i have ceramics on mine and they do leave dust on the wheels, plus they are noisy when cold.seem to grab when i need em tho,and thats all i care about in a brake pad.
I have seen them used on a Chevy 1/2 ton truck. Over time they kept his wheels cleaner. They also caused his rotors to turn blue, warp, and crack. I will not put them on my car. Personal opinion....

Have you checked to see if the pads on that side are worn more? It sure sounds like you could have a caliper dragging on that side. An internally collapsing flexible hose can cause the same thing by also causing excessive drag. Fix the problem, get ceramic pads and forget about the shields. Anything that retains brake heat is not a good thing on any kind of car.
