I went in to State Farm today to get an estimate for a windshield replacement on my 94... I talked to the adjuster and told them I want OEM parts for the windshield and molding. They said sure no problem, whatever Safelite quotes us on those parts we'll pay for. Before this I already talked to my Chevy dealer and molding was around $300 and $318 for the windshield plus around $100 for labor. State Farm only wants to pay $340 total!!! When I saw this I said there's no way those are the same OEM parts , but the State Farm agent assured me they are but "come in a different box" so they're cheaper.
I go to Safelite and show them the price quote and of course the parts State Farm wants to pay for are not OEM. What a bunch of BS, what do we pay premiums for every month? We end up getting screwed when it comes time to use your insurance. So many people on here have had problems with aftermarket windshields and molding, those parts are not the same quality as OEM which is what I thought the insurance had to replace them with, the same quality parts.
Now a "field inspector" is going to call me tommorow to look in this. Even if it all gets sorted out in the end I have to waste so much time jumping through hoops to make it right. It seems like every other company out there tries to screw you some how, it just never ends

This is a classic example of state law meeting head on into corporate greed.
Many states do not have glass laws. Delaware, Mass and a few others require that insurance pays the entire bill for glass repairs, regardless of price.
It sounds to me like TX does not have such a law... surprise surprise...
I have State Farm. They have been great. No complaints.
Insurance is a scam. Had the same BS when I needed the WS on my 84 replaced. I sat there and watched them do it because insurance did not want to pay for the moulding and weatherstripping. The F'in bill came to $250 which is what my deductable is. A$$holes.

If they don't deny your claim, and you don't have to take them to court. On paper everything sounds good with insurance, the reality alot of times is you don't get what you're promised and the only way to fix things is to sue them.
19 months ago state farm replaced my windshield with new mouldings/weatherstrip from GM dealer and the total bill was over $1000. I did not pay a dime with a zero deductible on auto glass. I took my car to Harmon Auto glass. I am not sure what kind of agents you guys got! I had just moved to VA at the time and I met the agent and filled a claim all in the same day.

If you think insurance companies as a whole has lost money, just look at their stock prices and actual revenue vs. profit - they are making TONS of profit? Where did you get they were losing money?
Nationwide issued a revision a while ago to their policy holders, they will go to every extent to repair a windshield before only partially paying for a replacement. That's the way the treat their premium policy holders. Go figure.

sorry here, but you do realize that if your vehicle is totaled, you will not get a new car unless you have a specific insurance policy for such coverage as with a collector car/specialty insurance company. You will get some amount of cash near the wholesale value of your vehicle. And to that you'd have to negotiate for added value. Just thought you'd like to know.
1. DO NOT USE SAFELITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If they use their glass it is crap.
You can chose any windsield company you want.
DO NOT use the dealer, they will only sub it out to another company.
2. Any auto glass company can get this approved.
3. Do not deal with claims, go through the Statefarm glass network Lynx. 888.624.4410
They can process your claim directly, unless there is another item other than the windshiled involved in the claim Lynx can handle it stem to stern.
I bill over $70,000 wirth of windshield claims with Statefarm alone a year, trust me.
Im not using Safelite after what I've read on here, State Farm just used them to get the quote on the parts even though Im going through the dealer. The reason I went through the dealer is because I will know for sure they will order GM OEM parts. Also they know which glass companies have more experience with Corvettes to sub it out to. The problem with Lynx is that my chevy dealer wont work with them. State Farm probably called Safelite for the quote snce they know they use the cheapest parts.

.After all is said and done sounds like its insurance shopping time.Ive got Nationwide and 2 days after starting the policy somebody ran into the car.Guy comes out and looks at the car and then tells me he found a USED hood so writes the estimate for the used hood.In the end I get a new hood.

Well... it started a while before that but if you're only counting LLoyds then...
The fraternals were insuring before that. See the "Forresters" for example.
what are you complaining about? let them use the cheap mouldings that leak, wait for a big rain storm and go after them for a new interior cause the cheap moldings leaked.this way you get new windshield, mouldings interior and underlay. and its all there fault.
take it to a stereo shop and have dynamatt put down before the new interior goes in this way your set.

You might get a new car out of the deal if your totalled or stolen car is a month old...
I've battled with insurance companies a few times in my life... You always end up getting screwed with ACV which won't replace the vehicle you lost...

Thats not a bad idea, however the last time I had weatherstip installed for my top it leaked pretty bad... I had to take it back 9 times and they finally refunded my money. Alot of places would deny responsibility and youre left with going to court or a backcharge if you used a credit card. I'd rather have it done right and not waste my time going back to the shop every other day. Its a pain to get these cars worked on.
